Jan Willem van der Schans

Dr Jan Willem van der Schans is a researcher specialising in urban food provisioning. He studied business economics at Erasmus University Rotterdam and did his PhD research about resource user self organisation. He worked at Wageningen University and Research and specialised in short and ultra short food supply chains (ultra short being food production inside cities). In various research projects he works togther with architects and urban planners to (re-) design urban food systems in order to make food more sustainable, more healthy and more affordable. Jan Willem developed a business accelerator program to strengthen the position of farmers and small scale food proccesors in the food supply chain.
